This last speech of Othello is his way of expressing to viewers how he would have liked them to see the events of the play. However, his speech, albeit elegant and characteristic of Othello’s extravagant and Romantic use of language, is flawed, ironic and thus it is impossible to see the events of the play in the light that Othello would like us to.
Only when Othello buys into the absurd idea that his race inherently makes him dangerous does he begin to creep toward the possibility of doing violence to his wife. When he sees himself through society’s eyes, as a barbaric interloper, Othello begins to despise himself, and it is that self-hatred that allows him to kill what he loves most.
The responsibility of Desdemona’s death falls on many different individuals throughout the play. Othello feels that it is entirely his fault and commits suicide while Cassio, Rodrigo, Emilia, and Brabantio all contribute to Iago’s plot and Desdemona failed to save her own life.Othello knows Desdemona is wanted and desired by many, so every time she brings up the topic of cassio it makes him wonder why he’s so important to her that she keeps bringing up his name. If Desdemona could’ve just gave up trying to help cassio because it was clear Othello wasn’t listening to her about him she wouldn’t have giving him reasons to doubt her fidelity.Sample essay describe your best friend; Classes.
